Experience the History of War with the Southern Museum

KENNESAW, Ga. – Experience the sights and sounds of history as you travel through time with the special program, ‘History of War: A Military Timeline,’ co-sponsored by the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History and the City of Kennesaw Parks and Recreation. Participants will talk to Roman soldiers, visit with the Confederates and witness the camaraderie of the Allies during World War II.

“This is an exciting event that will engage the entire community,” stated Southern Museum Director of Curriculum and Education Initiatives Jennifer Legates. “Not only does this program provide an accurate and educational timeline of various soldiers in history, but it’s also a fun family activity.”

The event takes place October 11 from 10 AM to 4 PM, and concludes on October 12 from noon until 4 PM. Adults are $5, children 4-12 are $3 and children 3 and under are free. Visitors are asked to park across the street from the Museum.

March on Big Shanty
October 4 • 10 AM – 4 PM
The 125th Ohio Volunteer Infantry will be encamped on the Museum’s front lawn and hold weapons firing demonstrations throughout the day. The event is free of charge. For more information, contact the Education Department at 770-427-2117, ext. 3174 or programs@southernmuseum.org.

Home schoolers of all ages can explore the Museum’s exhibits for a special rate. Educational programs will be offered hourly giving everyone the chance to learn more about history. See education section of www.southernmuseum.org for schedule. Reservations not required. (Please note: The Museum does not provide group tours on Home School Days.) Special admission rates: $4 per student (4-12 years), $6 per adult, free for children 3 and under. A Smithsonian Institution affiliate, the Southern Museum features collections of rare Civil War weapons, uniforms, and other personal items; an exciting exhibit about The Great Locomotive Chase, including a short movie; and a full-scale replica of a locomotive factory that helped rebuild the South after the war.

The Southern Museum is located 20 miles north of Atlanta, off I-75 at exit 273. Admission is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, $5.50 for children ages 4-12, and free for children 3 and under.
