Take Off on the Wild Journey of “A Polar Express Adventure”
12/3/08
Snuggle up in your jammies and bring on the hot chocolate, because this holiday season the Southern Museum in Kennesaw invites kids and their parents to believe in the magic all over again as it presents “A Polar Express Adventure.”
“The halls of the Southern Museum are going to be transformed into a Winter Wonderland for the imaginary journey, which was inspired by the popular book and movie,” explained Jennifer Legates, director of curriculum and education initiatives at the Museum. “We’re sure this magical event is going to be a success, and anyone who wants to be a part of it is advised to book early.”
Ticket holders for “A Polar Express Adventure” will begin their imaginary trip to the North Pole by visiting the Southern Museum’s key attraction, the Civil War locomotive the General. Once the event gets chugging along, participants will have the opportunity to help Santa’s elves in their workshop as they get ready for Christmas Eve, write Santa a letter telling him what they’d like for Christmas, and at the end of their journey receive their very own jingle bell so that they will always be reminded to believe.
“A Polar Express Adventure” will take place December 13, from 5 PM to 9 PM at the Southern Museum. Tickets are $7.50 for adults, $5.50 for children 4 to 12 and free for children 3 and under. For advance ticket sales, contact the Museum’s education department at 770.427.2117, ext 3177 or children@southernmuseum.org. Tickets will be available at the door on the evening of the event.
A Smithsonian Institution affiliate, the Southern Museum features collections of rare Civil War weapons, uniforms, and other personal items; an exciting exhibit about The Great Locomotive Chase, including a short movie; and a full-scale replica of a locomotive factory that helped rebuild the South after the war. Information and money-saving coupons are available on the Museum’s Web site, www.southernmuseum.org.
The Southern Museum is located 20 miles north of Atlanta, off I-75 at exit 273. Admission is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, $5.50 for children ages 4-12, and free for children 3 and under.
