World War II Soldiers, Trains to Take Over Kennesaw this May
04/13/2007
Visitors should watch out for World War II soldiers and locomotives in Kennesaw over the course of two weekends this May.
In honor of its special exhibit, You’re Darn Tootin’: The Glover Machine Works and World War II, the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History will present a free World War II living history May 5 – 6, featuring displays and/or firing demonstrations of 1940s-era weaponry, such as rifles, submachine guns and machine guns.
“You’re Darn Tootin’ shows how Americans reacted to the war at home. The Fighting for Liberty living history will show how the soldiers lived during the conflict,” explained Southern Museum Director of Education Jennifer Legates.
Two weeks later, May 19 – 20, the Museum hosts the annual All Aboard Days festival, which costs $8 a person for ages four and up.
“This festival is perfect for the entire family,” Legates revealed. “Children can ride the miniature train as many times as they like, and the whole family will enjoy the storytellers. Plus, there will be some really amazing model train displays.”
Festival-goers will also be eligible for half price admission to the Museum with hand stamp.
The Museum is sponsoring a number of other events in May, as well, including:
