Tentative Itinerary

8:30 AM – Registration and introduction; View the General

9:00 AM - Depart for Cooper Ironworks, stop in Kingston, & Adairsville depot, tour Tunnel Hill tunnel, lunch on sutlers' row, Battle of Tunnel Hill (2pm), & Ringgold.

Approx 5:30 PM – Arrive back at the Southern Museum.

 

 

Meet your tour guides:

Harper Harris, Lead Interpreter – Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History

Harper Harris, Lead Interpreter for the Southern Museum, is a Georgia native. He has been involved in Civil War reenacting for over forty years and has provided living history programs at the Southern Museum and Kennesaw National Battlefield since 1976. Harper began his love affair with the famous Civil War locomotive the General in 1967 as part of the 12th Georgia Light Artillery who helped bring the star of “The Great Locomotive Chase” back to Kennesaw, Georgia. Today he helps bring history to life for thousands of visitors each year who visit the Southern Museum, home of the General.

Robert Jones, President – Kennesaw Historical Society

Robert Jones has been President of the Kennesaw Historical Society since 1994. He's written several books for the Society, including "The Law Heard 'Round the World - An Examination of the Kennesaw Gun Law and Its Effects on the Community", "Retracing the Route of the General - Following in the Footsteps of the Andrews Raid", and "Kennesaw in the 19th Century". Robert has also written several books on ghost towns in the Southwest, including in Death Valley, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Mojave National Preserve.

Parking Information
All Bus Tour participates should park in the parking lot located in the rear of the Museum. To access this lot, please follow the directions included in this packet. A section of this lot will be cordoned off for Bus Tour participates only.

When You Arrive
After parking, please see the registration table located near the boarding location. Be sure to register before boarding the bus. PLEASE ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 8:45 AM. The bus tour will depart after the group views the General inside the museum.

Emergency Contact Numbers
In case of an emergency, please contact the museum's admissions desk at (770) 427-2117 ext 3179. The front desk will contact the museum staff with any problems or concerns.

Special Assistance
If you or a guest may need special assistance during the trip (i.e. help on/off the bus, or mobility to/from sites that require walking), please contact Jane Pies with the Special Events Office at (770) 427-2117 ext. 3058 prior to the date of the bus tour.

Lunch
Lunch will be at the Battle of Tunnel Hill Civil War Reenactment where participants may purchase authentic 19th Century fare at sutlers' row or other concessions. Entry to the reenactment, however, is covered under the cost of the bus tour.

Cancellations
A 100% refund is available if canceled by September 4th. Any cancellation after that time will be non-refundable. Please notify Jane Pies at the Special Events Office at (770) 427-2117 ext. 3058.
